If you are choosing from 10,000 km away, Balneário Camboriú is not the only option in Santa Catarina. These guides cover four very different places, an island capital, a surf town and two mountain towns, and compare each one honestly with BC.
Our main subject is still Balneário Camboriú. The area guides for BC itself are here. This section is for comparison, so you can see what you would gain and give up.

Only figures we could source are in the table. Where there is no reliable figure, we say so. Drive times marked as our estimate are rough and change a lot with the season and traffic.

FipeZap covers only larger cities, so there is no index figure for Garopaba, Urubici or Rancho Queimado. Average prices also hide large differences between streets and types of property. In the smaller towns, most of the market is houses and land rather than apartments.
How to choose
Want city life by the beach, walking distance to everything, and a new apartment? That is what BC does best.
Fly abroad often, work in tech, or need an international school? Look at Florianópolis, and be ready for island traffic.
Surf, nature and a small community? Look at Garopaba.
Mountains, real winters and space? Look at Urubici, or Rancho Queimado if you want to stay within about an hour of Florianópolis.
Many people combine them: an apartment on the coast and a weekend house in the hills.
